SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT ADAMAWA SET TO STRENTHEN STATE’S ABILITY TO HARNESS DEMOGRAPHIC POTENTIAL

The Adamawa State Planning Commission and UNFPA is poised to strengthen the economy of the state through utilization of its demographic potentials for Sustainable development.

This came to fore during a four day workshop organized by State planing commission in collaboration with UNFPA aimed at raising awareness and building capacity for better utilization of state’s demographic potential.

The workshop draw participants from government institutions, civil society, and development partners, focuses on the theme: “Developing Potential for Harnessing Demographic Opportunities.”

The Executive Chairman Adamawa State Planning Commission Dr Mary Paninga while declaring the workshop open said it is dedicated to exploring ways to capitalize on demographic opportunities in the state.

She said the State Planning Commission is taking new steps to ensure institutions and policymakers are well-equipped to manage population dynamics for growth.

The Executive Chairman Adamawa State Planning Commission highlighted the significance of grasping demographic trends for effective policy development and charged the participants to make good use of the workshop in achieving the desired goals.

The UNFPA state coordinator Dr Danladi Idrisa reaffirmed the commitment of the United Nations Population Fund to supporting Adamawa in strengthening data systems, family planning advocacy, and population management.

A presentation was also delivered by Dr. Noah Olasehibde, Research Programme Officer from the University of Ibadan, who highlighted the importance of evidence-based planning.
He stressed that without accurate research, governments risk missing out on the benefits of their demographic transitions.

Participants at the workshop will undergo intensive sessions on data management, demographic analysis, planning tools, and policy development—skills expected to strengthen Adamawa State’s long-term development agenda
