The launch of the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan is not just another event; it is a call to action for all of us.
Across Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe (the BAY states), 5.9 million people are projected to face severe crisis conditions this year. This represents a 25 per cent increase in number of food insecure people compared to last year, rising from 4.7 million to 5.9 million people.
In Adamawa, over 770,000 people are at severity level three due to border violence spillovers and seasonal flooding.
The drivers of this crisis are clear: conflict, climate extremes, disease outbreaks, and economic hardship.
These factors have eroded household resilience, leaving over 70 per cent of families unprepared for shocks.
This is happening at a time when humanitarian funding is declining, and critical services, especially in health and nutrition, are being scaled back.
We cannot allow this funding gap to translate into a gap in hope.
In Adamawa, we are responding with bold measures.
We are investing in agriculture and irrigation systems, expanding healthcare outreach, and supporting livelihood recovery for displaced families and host communities through our durable solutions approach.
We are also addressing climate shocks through the Anticipatory Action framework for flooding in collaboration with the UN and the Federal Government.
These efforts are aimed at building resilience and reducing dependency on emergency aid.
We deeply appreciate the United Nations, the Humanitarian Country Team, and all partners for their continued support.
Adamawa State is fully committed to the successful implementation of this plan.
But let me be clear: this is a shared responsibility.
We must strengthen local collaboration, embrace homegrown solutions, and ensure that every intervention uplifts dignity and restores hope.
Together, we can prevent this crisis from worsening.
Together, we can ensure that no child in Adamawa, or anywhere in the BAY states, goes to bed hungry.
The occasion was attended by Dr. Mary Paninga, Executive Chairman,ASPC alongside representatives of the Governors of Borno and Yobe states.
