Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to harnessing the potential of youths for sustainable economic growth through a demographic dividend–based approach.
The Governor made this known at the formal launch of the Adamawa State Youth Policy 2025 at the Government House Conference Hall, Yola. Speaking through the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Wali Yakubu, the Governor described youths as the backbone of society and assured that his administration will create an enabling environment for them to thrive.
He commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the State Planning Commission for their collaboration in developing the policy, describing its launch as a historic milestone for the state.
The Chairman of the State Planning Commission, Dr. Mary Paninga, said the policy launch coincided with a capacity-building programme on demographic dividend advocacy, aimed at strengthening youth participation in economic development.
In a paper presentation, the UNFPA Team Leader, Dr. Noah, praised Adamawa for being the first state in the North-East to launch a youth policy, noting that the state’s large youth population makes the policy timely and critical.
The Youth Policy and the demographic advocacy initiative were developed through collaboration between the State Planning Commission, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, and the UNFPA SARAH Project.
